This past Spring a young farmer unexpectedly walked into the The Pratt Nature Center. I listened as he enthusiastically explained his plans for an organic chicken and herb CSA. Inspired by his enthusiasm to collaborate and meet like minded people, I invited a couple of young farmers and “like minded” individuals that I know over for some snacks and conversation around the campfire. Friendships and collaborations were born and I learned that we all share one of the same passions , creating a healthier community. Whether we spend our days watching our organic veggies or chickens grow or fostering a love for Nature in “free range” children, we are all reaching for the same goal.
Tillers, Hay, Chickens. squash, potatoes, volunteer hay-bale throwers and chicken processors where found and shared. After all , we are not working against each other but rather in unison, all different pieces of a common goal.
The young chicken farmer, John Suscovich of Foodcyclist Farm recently invited me to be a guest on his podcast. I nervously accepted (talking to an auditorium filled with hundreds of school children is a breeze, a recorded interview is a little nerve racking).
I think it’s worth a listen.

Pratt spends lots of time educating the community on the effect of our food choices not only on our health but on the health of the environment. We plant, grow, harvest, preserve and cook with children of all ages.
Please feel free to unexpectedly walk through our door. You never know where it might lead.
Hope you enjoy the podcast.
