If your child has been to Pratt on a school field trip, Summer Camp or Birthday Party ask them if they remember the “Pratt Rules.”
We have three . They are really rather simple.
Rule # 1. If you fall down, get back up.
Rule #2 Keep your foot inside your shoe. ( sounds self explanatory doesn’t it?)
Rule #3 Be Respectful to Yourself, the people around you and Nature.
They might seem simple to the average person but if you know us at all you know they encompass who we are and what we can accomplish.
Rule #1....Easy. If you fall down in a puddle you will get back up and you will be wet. If you fall down in the mud you will get back up and you will be muddy. You might even have a skinned knee. That’s okay. Get up, dust yourself off and keep going. You will be fine. Pratt kids get back up. We are resilient, persistent, creative, tenacious, indefatigable…..to name a few. We can accomplish anything!
Rule #2 That’s the rule we always have trouble with. I do not know of another summer camp in the greater New Milford/Litchfield County area that would have problems with this but ….we do. We lose shoes. They get stuck in the mud of the pond, the river and the meadows. They fall off while in the river and float down stream. Just this afternoon a new staff member took the one shoe walk of shame…..I’m sure someone may have spotted the size 12 sandal floating towards the Long Island Sound this afternoon.
Rule # 3 Simple respect. Respect ourselves and each other, owning our differences and our similarities. Respect Nature, knowing how our lives are intimately connected to nature and the dependence we have on it.
Then there is always “Secret, Hidden Rule # 4……Don’t feed the chickens. I do not mind if you feed the chickens. The chickens do not mind if you feed the chickens. You will mind if you feed the chickens. Chickens steal lunches, But hey, any seasoned “Pratt kid” will chase that chicken down and get their sandwich back!

It’s Just That Simple.
