Help us Collect Bird Data

Next time you go to the Pratt  Nature Center for a nice hike or walk, take special note of the birds you see.  We are collecting data on  “EBIRD” about Birds at Pratt. It’s easy, just remember/write down the birds you see and when you get home you can input them into ” EBIRD” (directions below).OR if you want to input directly from your smart phone or ipad. You can download “birdlog North America” there is a fee for the app SO if we are in the office you can stop by and input on ours!    Pretty cool stuff… technology and Nature working together!! Even cooler, for the Nationwide Great Backyard Bird Count, there will be an event here at Pratt in February, you can bring a notebook or download a FREE app “birdlog backyard bird count” and collect info straight to your smart phone or i pad! (you can always input on ours or at home)

Pratt isn’t the only EBIRD “hotspot” in the area check them all out.  Now grab your binoculars and #gooutside !

YardMap

You’ll be asked to identify your location on the map. If you birded here at Pratt, type ‘Pratt Center’ into the search field. Otherwise, you can enter your home address or relative birding location, as well as latitude longitude. *Under ‘Explore Data,’ there’s an option to enter your backyard as a site – http://ebird.org/ebird/site/yard

Once you’ve chosen your location, you’ll be asked for the date, and what kind of observations you made. Even if you just went outside and saw a couple of chickadees, you can submit this data! It doesn’t have to be from a formal birding expedition.

The final step is to submit the number of individuals of each species you’ve seen (or just enter an ‘X’ to indicate that you’ve seen at least one)! Once you’ve submitted your own data, you can go and explore the data that other users have seen. Entering ‘Pratt Center’ in to the search field for ‘Hotspot Explorer’ will allow you to look through the species lists other birders have submitted!

I can’t wait until the summer camp kids start inputting their Data!!!!
