Bruno’s New Friend

Bruno, our African Spur-Thighed Tortoise ( Sulcata) has a new friend!

Bushy Hill Nature Center in Ivoryton Connecticut gave us a call last week asking for help in wintering their female Tortoise.   After discussing it with staff and Bruno of course, we agreed to help them out!  Shelly will be spending the winter with us as our “Foster Tortoise.”   Bruno got to meet his new house mate this afternoon. Colleen, Bushy Hill’s Farm Manager/Educator, drove Shelly the 1.5 hours ( Shelly’s First Car ride) to  the Pratt Nature Center.  The Paparazzi patiently waited to capture first impressions.

Bruno Meets Shelly

As anyone who knows Bruno might guess, his first reaction was to keep eating.  Shelly on the other hand hid in her shell. She is a little bit shy.

Pratt Enrichment kids first impressions were” she is a different shape”  ( she is round and not oval), “Her scales are a lighter color”, “Bruno is way bigger” .

Please feel free to stop by the Pratt Nature Center to welcome Shelly to New Milford.  She loves greens!

If I were to name the three most precious resources of life, I should say books, friends, and nature; and the greatest of these, at least the most constant and always at hand, is nature.       -John Burroughs         (now all Bruno needs is a book)
