Seeing this firsthand, is much different than trying to imagine what a yurt actually looks like. A yurt, originates back to the nomads of Eastern Europe/Asia and they used them as living quarters, since they had an easily collapsible framework, yet, very durable and well insulated. While this yurt is made from heavy canvas, yurts were typically made of animal hides.
A very iconic piece of the Pratt Center, the yurt is used year round for special programs, birthday parties and overnight stays youth groups. Its heat and electricity make it available year-round and has a cozy environment, even during winter.
