School Vacation Day Camp – November Dates

It can be a challenge to manage those days off during the week on the school calendar so let us help! Pratt follows the New Milford Public Schools and Washington Montessori calendar but any child from anywhere is welcome. When kids are off during the week, we welcome them for a day of camp. Open to kids age 4-14, they’ll spend the day exploring the property with friends in activities that change with every season. It is the perfect way for kids to spend the day when school is closed!

Homeschool Half Days 

Thursday, November 15th 

Open to children age 6-16. Choose the Morning, Afternoon or both sessions. $20 per child per session. Lunch is not provided but kids are welcome to bring a lunch or snacks to either session.

Morning Session 9:30 – 12:00  Animal Evidence

Kids will investigate the property with Pratt staff to collect evidence of the many different types of wildlife that live here. We’ll learn how to find, follow and identify animal tracks of all shapes and sizes as we practice our close observation skills

Afternoon Session 12:30 – 3:00  Outdoor Exploration

This session offers a wide range of possibilities in this open ended afternoon. Kids will help choose which part of Pratt to explore and their curiosity will drive our focus. The meadow? The river? The mountain? Forest? Barn and our animals? They’re all options for a great  and unique afternoon at Pratt!

National Take a Hike Day

Saturday, November 17th   10:00 am – 12:00 pm

It’s National Take a Hike Day so you know we’ll be out on our trails! It’s the perfect reason to  hike to the summit of Mt. Tom in New Milford and catch great views of the surrounding area with us. Pratt staff will lead the hike which will cover about 3.5 miles of trail in a loop. At an average pace,  this hike typically takes about an hour and half to complete. The summit is at an elevation of 1,043 feet with a few sections that are steep but very manageable.

All are welcome but please leave your dogs at home. The event is free but donations are appreciated!

Pratt’s Friendsgiving

Saturday, November 17th 4:00 pm – 6:00 pm

Come celebrate with us! We have a lot to be thankful for here at Pratt and we want to share our gratitude with the community that supports what we do so generously and graciously.

Join us in our greenhouse for a potluck Thanksgiving dinner. Bring your favorite, most delicious finger food or side dish to share.

Middle School Archery Afternoon

Wednesday, November 21st 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm 

Join Pratt’s certified archery instructors for an amazing fall afternoon of basic archery instruction! Kids will be introduced to the parts of a bow, coached through proper technique and get plenty of opportunity to hit that bullseye. Space is limited to 10 participants.

$15 per child, online pre registration is required.

Black Friday Hike

Friday, November 23rd  10:00 am – 12:00 pm

*We’re excited to co-sponsor this hike with the Connecticut Forest and Park Association as part of their Ramble program. The CFPA does amazing work keeping people connected to and protecting our public lands. Check out info on the 825 miles of the Blue-Blazed Hiking Trail System that CFPA maintains at www.ctwoodlands.org!

Work off those Thanksgiving calories and avoid the craziness of shopping those big box stores with a trip up the mountain! The summit of Mt. Wine, Women and Wreaths

Enjoy a Ladies’ Night at the Pratt Nature Center making your own holiday wreath in our festive greenhouse. We’ll supply the wire, necessary tools, pine boughs and some decorations as well as the wine, cheese and crackers! You bring your friends, any decorations you have been accumulating over the years and your festive spirit.  (Extra glue guns are always helpful!) Go home with a beautiful wreath just in time for holiday decorating!

$45.00 members/$50.00 non members

This is an adult only event and preregistration is required. You can register as an individual or have one person register your entire group.  Space is limited, register early!

Family Wreath Making

Sunday, November 25th 10:00 am – 5:00 pm

Drop in to make a holiday wreath with the family! We’ll have everything you’ll need in our festive greenhouse to put your basic wreath together along with some decorations. If you have your own decorations, feel free to bring them too!

$25.00 per wreath

Uncover the hidden and amazing lives of trees on the Pratt property. We’ll explore the variety of trees across the property, try out some basics of tree identification and learn how to decode cross sections of trees for a peek into history.  Kids will take home their own tree cookies to share they’re new knowledge.

November Moonlight Hike

Friday, November 30th 7:00 pm – 8:00 pm

Come stroll the lower fields with us for a moonlight hike. Weather permitting, we’ll finish with a campfire and roast marshmallows!

No registration required, all ages welcome!

Using nature as our inspiration, kids will work with hand tools, decorations and natural materials to create handmade crafts of their own design. A perfect opportunity to create something special for the holiday season.

Kids will learn how to construct a fire with the materials they can find in nature, practice lighting tinder with just a spark, use a bow drill and more! Whether you’ve never built a fire before or have a lot of practice, there will be something for everyone around our campfire.

This session offers a wide range of possibilities in this open ended afternoon that changes with every season. Elf in the Yurt

Sunday, December 23rd  5:00 pm 

Don’t be a cotton headed ninny muggins, join us for a showing of a holiday season favorite, Elf! 

All four elf food groups will be there: candy, candy canes, candy corn and syrup but everyone is encouraged to bring a treat to share with the group.

Space is limited and online pre registration is required.

This is a free event but donations are appreciated and will go to benefit scholarships for Pratt’s Summer Camp.

Warm up that singing voice and join us for a festive  evening of holiday carols around the campfire. We’ll sing and stroll the lower fields on our moonlight hike. Weather permitting, we’ll finish with a campfire and roast marshmallows!
