Barefoot Necessities – Intro to the Benefits of Barefoot Walking

Wednesday, September 26th, 2018 @ 5:00 pm

We know that getting outside can improve our health in so many ways. Even something as simple as walking barefoot can help. Research suggests that barefoot contact with the earth can have positive physiological effects on the body including pain reduction, improvement in sleep, lowering of stress and a decrease in muscle tension. Dave Cherniske, long time Pratt educator, will, literally and figuratively, walk you through his experience with staying barefoot and the potential benefits as you stroll through the different terrains Pratt has to offer. Come learn how to reconnect your feet and your health to nature!

This program is for adults and free but online preregistration is required. Participants should dress for the weather. In the event it is necessary to cancel, participants will be emailed and an announcement will be posted to our Facebook page.

Pratt’s Great Family Campout

Friday, September 28th, 2018 @ 5:00 pm to Saturday, September 29th @ 10:00 am

Spend the night as a family outside and under the stars at Pratt’s Great Family Campout! We’ll provide the fire, the marshmallows, field games and a night stroll around the lower fields while you bring your camping supplies, food and an adventurous spirit.

Our campout begins on the evening of Friday, September 28th by arriving at Pratt anytime after 5:00 pm. Set up your tent and settle in for a night of family fun. We’re only supplying the marshmallows so please plan to bring your own dinner and snacks. Wood campfires will be provided for anyone that wants to cook over an open flame. Water and bathrooms will be available on site. Spend the rest of the evening enjoying the views on the property or play in some of our classic field games. After dark, Pratt staff will lead a night stroll through the lower fields for anyone interested. Finish off the evening by roasting marshmallows around the campfire before settling in for a great night’s sleep under the stars.

This is a family event meant to be a classic camping experience. To stay true to that expectation and for safety, there a few things that can’t be part of the Great Family Campout.

Please leave the following at home, as they are not allowed at this event:

-No alcohol or tobacco products (including e-cigarettes or similar devices).

-No firearms or weapons of any kind.

-No pets.

-No propane tanks or charcoal (wood fires will be provided)

-No amplified music (meaning that it can be heard outside of your tent).

-No generators.

This is an all ages, family event. Space is limited, please be sure to register early! The cost is $10 per family and online pre registration is required by Wednesday, September 26th.
